The journalism profession is built on the principles of accountability and respect, with journalists playing a vital role in chronicling events and ensuring public officials are answerable to the people, a notion upheld by the NUJ Ogun West Independent Chapel’s media chat ‘Meet the press,’ featuring 2027 Senate, Representatives, and Assembly aspirants from Ado Odo-Otta and surrounding communities.
The 4-day media chat event featuring both male and female aspirants was truly commendable and left a lasting impression, as each aspirant faced rigorous questioning from respected journalists representing the print and electronic media.
Historically, journalists would often conduct media assessments at local government levels and invite aspirants from different constituencies to discuss their political manifestos and share them with the public for opinions and feedback

Aspirants vying for Ogun West Senate, Reps, and Assembly seats in Ado Odo-Otta comprise Akinpelu Aina, Hon. Otunba Olusegun Gbeleyi, Hon. Layi Taiwo, and Tunji Bankole, cutting across both the ruling and opposition parties. Moderated by Daniel Olushola Michael of Global Report, the Ogun West Independent Chapel media chat provided a platform for both aspirants to articulate their brief manifestos and outline plans for contributing differently to the growth of their constituency and community development within their allotted time frames.
Each aspirant participated in a 1 hour and 30-minute media chat, which proved to be an exciting and enriching experience as they eloquently shared their well-structured plans and manifestos, informing the public about their potential initiatives. Both aspirants committed to ensuring maximum security for lives and properties, initiating water projects, promoting solar energy power, providing good and quality education for pupils in their constituencies, and improving road infrastructure.
With the primary election approaching, each aspirant is fully geared up and ready to face the forthcoming task.The first phase of the four-day media chat titled “Meet the Press” featuring some aspirants for Ogun West Senate, Reps, and Assembly was effectively organized and executed at the Recreational Centre, Ado Odo-Otta, Ogun State, culminating in a vote of thanks delivered by the Chairman of the Ogun West Independent Chapel, Kayode Taiwo.
As expected by the Ogun West Independent Chapel and other hopefuls, the second phase is scheduled to occur from Monday, 6th April 2026 to Tuesday, 7th April 2026.
