Benin Unity Summit Makes History as Leaders Across Party Lines Gather in Benin City

The ancient city of Benin witnessed history today as the much-awaited Benin Unity Summit successfully held, drawing together the crème de la crème of Edo politics, culture, and society. The gathering, which brought political leaders and stakeholders across party lines, was hailed as a resounding success and a turning point in the quest for unity and progress in the ancient Benin Kingdom.
Among those in attendance were serving and former senators, members of the House of Representatives, Edo State legislators, political office holders, and influential figures from various political persuasions. Their presence underscored the collective commitment to place the interest of Benin Kingdom above partisan divides.
The Convener’s Call for Unity
In his keynote speech, the convener of the summit, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, popularly known as the King of Networking in Nigeria, set the tone with a stirring message of unity and progress under the theme: “One Voice, One Vision, One Benin.”
> “Today, history is being written. It is with great honor and humility that I welcome you all to the first-ever Benin Summit—a gathering born out of a shared dream, a common purpose, and an unshakable belief in the destiny of our people,” he declared.
He emphasized that the summit was not “just another meeting” but “a foundation stone” and “the beginning of a movement” that would define the next chapter in the history of the Benin Kingdom.
> “From this moment forward, let it be remembered that here, in this place, leaders, visionaries, and citizens gathered to say: We choose unity over division, collaboration over competition, and progress over stagnation,” Onaiwu said.
A Movement Beyond Politics
The convener further highlighted that the summit was not a political rally but a people-driven platform focused on cultural preservation, social progress, and economic development.
> “We will support any Benin person with genuine intentions and legitimacy, but we will not support anyone who works against Benin. Healthy competition among ourselves is welcome, but it should never divide us,” he stressed.
Calling on all participants to see themselves as “architects of a new era,” Onaiwu urged Bini sons and daughters to transform their commitments into action that would uplift the people, preserve the culture, and ensure prosperity for future generations.
A Defining Moment
The atmosphere at Homeville Hotel, off Etete GRA, Benin City, where the summit was held, was charged with excitement and hope. Many described the event as a historic turning point that will be remembered as the moment when the Bini people chose unity over division and progress over stagnation.
With resounding applause from the packed hall, Earl Osaro Onaiwu closed his address by declaring:
> “Together, with One Voice, One Vision, and One Benin, the future is ours to create.”
The success of the summit has already sparked conversations about follow-up initiatives and structures to ensure that the resolutions reached will translate into tangible benefits for the Benin Kingdom and its people.
