2027: Ogun West Professionals Endorse Tinubu for Second Term, Senator Adeola Yayi as Ogun Governor

Members of the Ogun West Professionals for Yayi on Sunday, February 1, 2026, commended the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they described as unprecedented infrastructural development across the Ogun West Senatorial District.

The commendation was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a media chat organised by the group at the Frontier Hotel Resorts, Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State.

According to the group, the engagement formed part of a broader agenda aimed at repositioning Ogun West for political inclusion and leadership at the highest level in Ogun State.

In the communiqué, the professionals noted that Ogun West has never witnessed such extensive federal presence, both in political appointments and infrastructural projects. On this basis, they unanimously resolved to support President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

The communiqué further stated that the media engagement was anchored on the collective aspiration of Ogun West to produce the next Governor of Ogun State in 2027, stressing that achieving this objective would require strategic professional engagement and the building of broad-based consensus across the district.

The media chat, themed, “The Power of Internal Coherence in Securing External Support: Roadmap for Achieving Ogun West Gubernatorial Ambition in 202”, featured Senator (Dr.) Opeyemi Bamidele, CON, Majority Leader of the 10th Senate, as Guest Speaker.

In his lecture, Senator Bamidele attributed Ogun West’s failure to produce a governor in the last 50 years to persistent internal political discord, largely driven by the district’s diverse Yoruba sub-ethnic composition.

He explained that, unlike Ogun Central and Ogun East senatorial districts, which have taken turns producing governors, linguistic and dialectal differences among elites in Ogun West have hindered consensus-building over the years.

According to him, “Ogun West, which shares an international boundary with the Republic of Benin, is home to diverse Yoruba sub-ethnic groups, including the Yewa (formerly Egbado), Awori, Ketu, Anago and Ogu. By implication, regardless of size or influence, Ogun West contends with greater ethnic divergence and, often, discordant political interests. This multiplicity of sub-ethnic groups and language or dialect differences has remained a major obstacle to elite consensus in the district.”

The Senate Majority Leader also blamed the delineation of wards and local government areas at the creation of Ogun State 50 years ago for the political disadvantage Ogun West faces in its quest to produce a governor.

He stated: “Available records show that the population ratios of the three senatorial districts are almost even. The 2006 census puts Ogun East, with nine local governments and 104 wards, at 1,248,338 people, representing 33.2 per cent of the state population; Ogun Central, with six local governments and 75 wards, has 1,370,820 people, or 36.4 per cent; while Ogun West, with five local governments and just 59 wards, has 1,146,006 people, or 30 per cent.

“The delineation of wards and local governments, which determines the number of delegates during party primaries, places Ogun West at a disadvantage whenever the delegate system is adopted. This lopsided allocation puts undue pressure on aspirants from Ogun West and weakens their chances at primary elections.”

Earlier, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, described Senator Adeola Yayi as a renowned political figure with national recognition, noting that his track record demonstrates reliability and readiness to lead Ogun State come 2027.

Dr. Salako said the journey towards Ogun West occupying the Oke-Mosan Government House in 2027 is a phased project that requires collective effort and sustained commitment to achieve.

“We must continue to reach out to everyone. We should not make enemies of those who do not yet agree with us. Instead, we must win them over”, he urged.

He also commended President Tinubu for appointing a minister from Ogun West, noting that the district had been denied such federal representation for nearly 30 years before the advent of the Tinubu-led administration.

Delivering a solidarity message on behalf of Ogun Central Senatorial District, APC chieftain Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu described Senator Adeola Yayi as not only a prominent political figure, but a national asset widely acknowledged for his legislative productivity.

Sanyaolu said the people of Ogun Central regard Senator Adeola as a bridge builder with statewide appeal.

He noted that Ogun West is blessed with a governorship candidate who is well prepared and widely accepted across the state, stressing that Senator Adeola is eminently qualified and suitable to lead Ogun State as the next governor.

The APC chieftain assured Senator Adeola and the people of Ogun West of Ogun Central’s support for his governorship aspiration.

“Our support for Senator Yayi in the 2027 governorship race is overwhelming. Our people are waiting for him. This time, Ogun West must get it right”, he declared.

Also speaking on behalf of Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Lekan Mustapha urged leaders of Ogun West to unite and work together to secure the governorship of Ogun State in 2027.

He lamented that Ogun West has long remained the “weeping boy” of the state, describing the continued denial of the governorship to the district as “most unfair.”

Speaking for the Egba people, a Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Yemi Oke, assured that his people would cast their votes for Senator Adeola as the next governor of Ogun State in 2027.

“Yayi is ours. Ifo, Odeda, Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, Ewekoro – everybody will vote for him as governor in 2027”, Prof. Oke assured.

Citing Senator Adeola’s record of service delivery, quality representation, and consistent advocacy for development, a member of the Ogun West Professionals, Balogun Aina Kusoro, moved the motion for the adoption of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the group’s governorship choice, alongside the endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term.

The motion was seconded by Prince Kunle Adebiyi.

The 600-member Ogun West Professionals said the decision to adopt Senator Adeola Yayi for the 2027 governorship followed his unprecedented performance in delivering life-impacting constituency projects across Ogun West and beyond, just as President Tinubu has continued to deliver dividends of democracy nationwide in ways they described as unmatched by previous administrations.

The group, however, stressed the urgent need for unity among political stakeholders in Ogun West, warning that internal divisions could jeopardize what it described as a historic opportunity for the district.

They expressed appreciation for goodwill messages and solidarity from Ogun Central and Ogun East Senatorial Districts, as conveyed by Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu, Prof. Yemi Oke, and Senator Lekan Mustapha, while pledging to work collectively towards realising the Ogun West governorship aspiration in 2027.

Earlier in his welcome address, the National Coordinator of Ogun West Professionals for Yayi, Chief Dapo Oke, described the gathering as a historic convergence of professionals united by a shared vision to deploy their expertise towards the emergence of a greater Ogun State under the leadership of Senator Adeola.

Chief Oke explained that the group comprised professionals of Ogun West origin, both at home and in the diaspora, who are committed to regional development and political equity.

He described the body as a coalition of accomplished individuals from diverse sectors, determined to mobilise stakeholders and correct what he termed the historical marginalisation of the district, particularly in state leadership.

According to him, the media engagement was more than a routine event, but a clarion call for reflection, dialogue, and renewed commitment to the future of Ogun State.

Chief Oke noted that Ogun West professionals embody excellence, innovation, and integrity, adding that it was only appropriate for them to rally behind a leader whose track record mirrors those values.

Speaking further, Oke, who is also the Registrar of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode, said Senator Adeola is no stranger to public service, stressing that his legislative journey has been defined by dedication, visionary leadership, and passion for development.

He highlighted the senator’s visible and transformative impact in Lagos West and now Ogun West, adding that Adeola was recently honoured as The Sun Man of the Year 2025 in recognition of his contributions to responsive governance.

He urged participants to engage the media with clarity of purpose and to leave the event as ambassadors of the Ogun West aspiration, expressing confidence that Ogun State deserves a tested, trusted, and results-driven leader.

Chief Oke also disclosed that at its inaugural meeting on Sunday, December 7, 2025, the group unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi as its preferred Ogun West candidate for the 2027 governorship, based on his quality representation and infrastructural contributions to the district.

He called on people across Ogun State’s three senatorial districts to rally behind Senator Adeola, whom he described as a proven leader with a strong governance and development record.

The media chat was massively attended by various interest groups, clubs, associations, prominent personalities, and political figures from across Ogun West and other parts of Ogun State.

Dignitaries at the event included traditional rulers, chiefs, captains of industry, media practitioners, APC leaders, students, and representatives of clubs and associations.

Among other notable attendees were royal fathers led by Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Olugbenle, MFR, the Asade Agunloye IV, Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, who also serves as Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, as well as former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, who was represented by a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adekunle Adeyemi, among others.
