PRESS STATEMENT ON U.S. EMBASSY SECURITY ADVISORY AND RISING INSECURITY IN NIGERIA BY THE NEO BLACK MOVEMENT OF AFRICA WORLDWIDE
The Neo Black Movement of Africa Worldwide expresses grave concern over the recent decision by the United States Government to authorize the departure of non-emergency personnel and their families from its Embassy in Abuja due to the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria.
This development raises serious questions about the global perception of Nigeria’s safety and stability, particularly in relation to diplomacy, investment, and economic engagement. It underscores a growing loss of confidence that must be urgently addressed.
Reports indicating that several states across the country have been designated as high-risk due to terrorism, kidnapping, violent crime, and civil unrest reflect a troubling reality that Nigerians confront daily. The scale and persistence of these threats can no longer be downplayed or treated with routine assurances.
While we sincerely recognise and appreciate the effort of the Federal government so far in the quest to tackle the menace of insecurity, the Neo Black Movement of Africa Worldwide however, calls on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to double the effort to take direct and visible leadership in addressing this situation. At a time of heightened concern, Nigerians and the international community require clear communication, decisive action, and measurable progress in restoring security and public confidence.
We therefore urge the Federal Government to immediately take the following into consideration:
I. Intensify intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations across identified high-risk areas.
II. Strengthen the capacity of security agencies through improved funding, training, and modern equipment.
III. Address underlying drivers of insecurity, including unemployment, poverty, and systemic corruption.
IV. Enforce accountability at all levels of governance, including state and local authorities, for security outcomes within their jurisdictions.
V. Provide a direct national address outlining a clear strategy to confront insecurity and restore confidence.
Nigeria remains a critical actor in Africa and a longstanding partner in global affairs. However, sustained insecurity poses a direct threat to national development, investor confidence, and the well-being of citizens.
The time for decisive leadership is now. Nigerians must be assured, through action, not rhetoric, that their safety is a priority. The international community is watching, and the response to this moment will define the nation’s trajectory in the months ahead.
