Top Ministry Officials Accused of Backing Illegal Land Grab at Federal Government College Kano – Court Order Defied with “Official Protection”
Fresh facts have emerged suggesting that the ongoing defiance of a court order on the disputed land of Federal Government College, Kano, may be enjoying covert support from top officials within the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Government College Kano Old Students Association (FGCKOSA) has alleged.
In an exclusive interview and through a passionate press statement obtained by this reporter, the alumni association accused unnamed but “highly placed” ministry officials of actively encouraging the illegal encroachment, even after a Kano State High Court issued an ex parte order halting all construction activities on the site.
According to FGCKOSA, the association acted swiftly and lawfully, securing Suit No. K/323/2026 before Honourable Justice Ubale Yusuf Muhammad. The order, served on all parties including the Honourable Minister of Education by Saturday, April 11, 2026, commanded an immediate freeze on any further activity on the land.
Yet, a source within the association told this correspondent that construction workers remained on site days later. On Monday, an officer of the Kano State High Court, accompanied by alumni members, personally visited the school premises and confirmed that workers were actively present. The court order was handed directly to school authorities. Still, work continued.
“This is not a simple case of rogue encroachers,” Shoyinka Shodunke, National President of FGCKOSA, told this reporter. “We have credible reason to believe that certain top officials within the Federal Ministry of Education are shielding those behind this illegality. They are emboldening the defiance. They are spitting on the court’s authority from the comfort of their offices.”
The association stopped short of naming names but demanded an immediate presidential inquiry into the role of ministry officials, alleging that the land grab is being dressed up as “development” while insiders position themselves for private gain.
“Let us call evil by its name,” Shodunke added. “This is not development. This is racketeering. And when officials who swore to protect our educational institutions look the other way, they become accomplices to a crime against national heritage.”
FGCKOSA has vowed to fight “legally, socially, and institutionally” without retreat, declaring that the land is “not for sale, not for trade, not for negotiation.” The association has also established a foundation to raise funds for infrastructure upgrades, but stressed that this will be done “without conceding a single inch of land.”
“As we say in Nigeria, we die here,” the statement concluded. “We will not relent until every official complicit in this shameful act is exposed and every illegal structure is pulled down.”
Attempts to reach the Federal Ministry of Education for comment were unsuccessful as of press time. However, a senior ministry source, speaking on condition of anonymity, denied any official backing of the encroachment, calling the allegations “unfounded.”
The court has scheduled further hearings on the matter. Meanwhile, FGCKOSA has called on the public, the press, and anti-corruption agencies to investigate what it describes as “a disturbing erosion of values where greed supersedes purpose.”
