New Complaint Feedback Platform Delivering Results — Lagos Task Force Boss, CSP Akerele Adetayo
…Agency deepens collaboration with media to bridge gap with the public
The Chairman of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Task Force), CSP Akerele Adetayo, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enforcing laws that promote order and curb miscellaneous offences across Lagos State and its environs.
Speaking with journalists at his office in Bolade, Oshodi, CSP Adetayo outlined key achievements recorded since assuming leadership of the agency. These include the recent sanitation operation in Fagba, Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area, where illegal shanties identified as hideouts for criminal activities were dismantled.
He also highlighted intensified enforcement against one-way driving and other traffic violations, as well as sustained efforts to maintain sanity on Lagos highways.
According to him, the Task Force has made significant progress through its community engagement strategy, working closely with traditional rulers and community leaders to strengthen grassroots participation in policing.
“We have engaged community leaders on their roles in community policing. The police cannot do it alone. We need the cooperation of the people to achieve our objectives,” he said.
CPS Adetayo further described the newly introduced Complaint Feedback Platform as one of the agency’s most impactful initiatives.
The platform enables members of the public to report emergencies and lodge complaints directly with the Task Force.
“This platform is yielding the desired results. We have recorded measurable success through timely feedback from the public. Residents can reach us through our hotline numbers — 09137555111 and 09138555111 — and get immediate attention, especially in distress situations,” he stated.
The Task Force Chairman also revealed plans to strengthen collaboration with the media as part of efforts to close the information gap between the agency and the public. He noted that media briefings, previously held quarterly, will now take place monthly to keep residents informed about environmental, sanitation, and traffic regulations.
Addressing a recent allegation by an individual identified as Sheriff, who claimed that Task Force operatives unlawfully arrested an Okada Rider and one way on the other hand , CSP Adetayo dismissed the claim as inaccurate. He clarified that the driver in question violated Lagos State traffic laws by driving against traffic and illegally using the BRT corridor.
“Our findings clearly showed that the Okada contravened existing laws. The agency was able to establish the facts and has been vindicated.
We will continue to carry out our duties diligently, in line with the laws guiding our operations,” he affirmed.
In his closing remarks, CSP Adetayo urged Lagos residents to support the Task Force by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities within their communities.
He emphasized the importance of compliance with traffic and environmental laws, particularly the prohibition of one-way driving.
“Be law-abiding and work with us. Together, we can make Lagos a safer and better place for all,” he said.
