From Nollywood to Gospel Music: Sola Popoola Releases Debut Album
United Kingdom-based Nollywood actress, Sola Dorcas Popoola, has officially expanded her creative horizon by venturing into gospel music with the release of her debut album titled “Oluwa Jọba.”
The three-track gospel project, released on Friday, June 26, 2026, marks a significant milestone in the actress’ career as she answers what she describes as a divine calling to spread the gospel through music.
The album features three inspirational songs: Oluwa Jọba, Ipeola, and Kilofe, all aimed at encouraging believers to remain steadfast in their faith despite life’s challenges.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Journalist, Gbolahan Adetayo, the Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State-born entertainer revealed that the project was inspired by a spiritual mandate she received from God after years of ignoring the call.
According to Sola, her passion for gospel music dated back to her childhood when she sang in the church choir and often received songs in her dreams.
“From my childhood, I have always been a chorister in my church. I usually received songs in my dreams, but I never paid much attention to them. As I grew older, my love for God and singing became stronger. I joined the choir and also became a member of the Word on Stage Ministry, which is the drama department in my church,” she said.
She disclosed that more than three years ago, she repeatedly heard the phrase ‘Oluwa Jọba’ during prayers but initially dismissed it.
“About three years ago, I kept hearing ‘Oluwa Jọba,’ but I ignored it. Two years later, God impressed it upon my heart again and made me understand that it was a mandate for me to evangelise to people that God still reigns regardless of whatever challenges or troubles they may be facing. I always heard it in Yoruba as ‘Oluwa Jọba,’ and that was when I decided to obey,” she explained.
Popoola credited her spiritual mentors, Reverend Abiodun Adesanya and Reverend Olayemi Adesanya, whom she affectionately calls Ba’mi and Ma’mi, for their encouragement and guidance throughout the project.
She also acknowledged the support of Pastor Dimeji Adepitan, Wale Richard Tella, Dorcas Demilade Adelaja, and other members of her church who contributed to making the vision a reality.
The actress further revealed that her ministry has grown beyond music, leading to the creation of an evangelistic programme also titled “Oluwa Jọba.” During the production of the programme, she said God continued to inspire her with songs, which she carefully documented before collaborating with her longtime friend and US-based gospel singer and music producer, Mr. Sanmi Dairo, popularly known as Akile Gbogbo New York, to record the album.
Expressing gratitude to God for the successful release, Popoola disclosed that work is already in progress on the official music videos for the songs, with fans expected to enjoy the visuals in the coming weeks.
She also appreciated her husband, Mr Oluwaseun James Popoola for his usual support.
