The Concerned Senior Citizens of Mopa, Kogi State, have expressed displeasure over Chief Muyiwa Ibue’s continued claim to the stool of Elulu of Mopa, despite a High Court order to maintain status quo. High Chief Michael Ajayi, acting chairman of the group, and Elder Reuben Famodile addressed the media in Abuja, stating that Chief Ibue’s installation by the Mopa Traditional Council in May 2024 was illegal and breached the court’s February 2024 injunction [1).

Chief Ibue does not belong to any of the four ruling houses: Ajerin, Aisan, Ilegemo, and Patia. The group claims it’s the turn of the Patia Ruling House from Iloke community to ascend the stool.

– Attempting to rewrite Mopa’s history to suit his narrative
– Creating “Kingmakers for Mopaland,” unheard of in Mopa’s traditions
– Unilaterally postponing the 70-year-old Mopa Day celebration
– Renaming and creating ruling houses to suit his agenda

The Concerned Mopa Senior Citizens aim to uphold Mopa’s unity, heritage, justice, and development. They observed the faulty selection process of Elulu, contrary to tradition, generating acrimony and threatening peace.

*Call to Action*

The group appeals to Kogi State and Federal Government authorities to intervene, investigate human rights violations, and prevent further conflict. Chief Ibue and Mopa Traditional Council are warned to stop obstructing justice and allow court processes to resolve the chieftaincy disputes.
