APC government has deviated from the spirit of June 12, 1993 dream for Nigeria –  Professor Muhammad Omolaja By Comrade Ajibade Alabi

A thorough breed politician, Professor Muhammad Ayinla Omolaja (MAO), has hit out at the All Progressives Congress (APC) government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu saying that the Tinubu Administration is not on the path and principles of the June 12, 1993 dream of the Nigerians; a date which is symbolic to democracy day in the country. June 12 became an important date in the History of democracy in Nigeria when in 1993, Nigerians in their millions trooped out irrespective of their tribes, ethnicity or religion to vote massively for a Yoruba Muslim candidate, Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (MKO) who contested for and won the election under the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP); the election which will for many years be considered the fairest and most credible in the history of the country but which the military government under the leadership of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (Rtd.) annulled for reasons best known to him; the annulment of the election sparked off spontaneous protest in all part of the country during which many lives and property were lost.For many years after the election was held and annulled, the civilian leaders that emerged as a result of the annulment chose May, 29 of every year as democracy day in Nigeria until the second tenure of General Muhammadu Buhari administration as Nigeria President during which democracy day in the country was fixed for June 12 of every year; ever since, Nigerians have been celebrating June 12 as their democracy day and no longer on May 29.However, Professor Muhammad Omolaja has come out to dig deep into the present APC government saying they have deviated from the plans, mission, vision and dream of the modern democracy which Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba Land, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola envisaged for Nigeria. Speaking through his Media Director, Comrade Ajibade Alabi, Professor Muhammad Omolaja, the Ike Mba 1 of Africa, said Abiola’s spirit will not be happy with what is going on in the Nigeria of today as far as democracy practice is concerned!”To be sincere, is this the democracy we all craved for while fighting for democracy about thirty years ago? The democracy we hope for when Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola and his contemporaries came out to liberate the Nigerian people from poverty, inter alia, through the policies which were well spelt out in the manifesto of the then Social Democratic Party (SDP) which we all embraced is quite different from what obtains today! The ruling APC government has deviated from the road, and it is very painful and disappointing that the current Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was one of those clamoring for true democracy then. It is equally a saddened scenario that the government has not really defined the genuine meaning of democracy to Nigerians with their unfulfilled promises of the so called Renewed Hope Agenda.”What has been our gained as a democratic county? Not many systems are working even though the so called political leaders are pretending that things are fine; however, it is obvious that things are not okay at all for the generality of the Nigerian populace. Instead of making life better for Nigerians, masses and even the so called elites alike, what we have are political leaders who are already systematically campaigning for the next general election in two years time; that is, for 2027 general elections! The question is, having gotten to their offices somehow whether genuinely or otherwise, have they truly delivered dividends of democracy to Nigerians they claim they are serving? Are they truly following the true spirit of the June 12 as real symbol of democracy? The answers are obviously no!”Comrade Ajibade Alabi said that Nigerian will have their destiny in their hands again as they will reshape the country through the forthcoming 2027 general election. This time around, he urges Nigerians to consider brave and competent leaders like Prof. Muhammad Omolaja – a detribalized, patriotic and nationalist Nigerian – to paddle the canoe of the country as the next President when they will have another ample opportunity to choose their leaders wisely.
