Taking Over the Family Business:
Tragedy struck when Dele’s father passed away, leaving behind a business empire that Dele felt ill-prepared to manage. Despite his limited experience in running a business, Dele was determined to succeed. He relied on the meticulous record-keeping his father had maintained, which became his guiding compass.

Assuming the role of Group Executive Director (GED) of Henry Stephens Group, which encompassed approximately 19 companies, Dele faced his first major challenge: an overwhelming debt pile left by his father. With determination and resourcefulness, he secured a loan of N200,000 from Firstbank and meticulously repaid it within ten years. Though some companies within the group closed down, Dele’s perseverance ensured the survival of the Henry Stephens Group.

Business Ventures and Success:
Dele Fajemirokun’s business acumen and networking skills played pivotal roles in his success. He forged long-standing relationships and leveraged them to form strategic collaborations, reducing risks and maximizing benefits. One of his notable achievements was acquiring an 11% stake in AIICO Insurance, outmaneuvering regulations that limited ownership to a single person or entity. Through his wit and the establishment of 11 shell companies, he became the legal owner of the 11% shares, becoming the second-largest stakeholder in AIICO.

Over the years, Dele continued to make bold moves. He acquired a majority stake in AIICO Insurance, becoming its largest stakeholder. As the Chairman, he used his personal property to secure a loan of N650 million within 24 hours, ensuring the company’s license was reissued.
