Former Governors’ Forum of Nigeria Congratulates Senator Gbenga Daniel at 70, Calls for Greater Role in Nation Building

The Former Governors’ Forum of Nigeria (FGF) has extended warm congratulations to Gbenga Daniel, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, which he recently marked with a high-profile book launch attended by prominent political figures and national stakeholders.

In a statement issued by the National Coordinator of the Forum, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, the Forum (who was the former DG of the Nigerian Governors Forum) described Senator Daniel as “a distinguished statesman, accomplished administrator, and enduring contributor to Nigeria’s democratic development.”

According to Onaiwu, Senator Daniel’s legacy as a two-term Governor of Ogun State and his continued relevance in national discourse exemplify the kind of leadership experience the Forum seeks to harness for the benefit of the country.
“Your Excellency’s life at 70 is a testament to purposeful leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment to national development.
The remarkable gathering of political heavyweights at your recent book launch is a clear reflection of the respect and influence you command across party lines,” the statement read.

The Former Governors’ Forum of Nigeria, described as the first initiative of its kind on the African continent, is a non-partisan platform established to bring together former governors across Nigeria to contribute meaningfully to governance, policy development, and national stability.

The Forum aims to institutionalize the collective experience of former state executives by serving as an advisory body on critical national issues, fostering unity, supporting democratic consolidation, and offering strategic guidance to current leaders at both federal and state levels.
Onaiwu emphasized that the Forum represents a deliberate effort to transform past leadership experience into a structured national asset, capable of addressing the complex challenges facing the country.

Onaiwu further called on other former governors across the federation to actively participate in the initiative and lend their voices to the task of nation-building.
“We also call on other Governors to add their voice to nation building,” Onaiwu stated.
