FUOYE extends Medical outreach to Ikole community

Medical outreach organized by the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) as part of the activities marking the 9th Convocation Ceremonies of the institution, moved to Ikole community area of Ekiti State, Nigeria, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the Elekole Palace.

The event was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, who was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Olusegun Adeyemi.

He emphasized the importance of being aware of one’s health status as key to overall health status of individual.

He said: “We are here because the University cares about you. We have come to provide essential assistance regarding your well-being, and I urge you to be open with the medical team about your health concerns.

“We want to assure you that many more positive initiatives are coming to Ikole. We are here to check and treat any ailments you may have.”

Professor Adeyemi explained that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina was in a meeting with the government and had asked him to represent him at the event.

Similarly, the Chief Medical Director of the University Health Services , Dr. Musbau Olawale, delivered a keynote address stating, “since the beginning of Professor Sunday Abayomi Fasina’s administration, we have conducted this medical outreach in Ikole every year.

“We provide checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol levels, and malaria, and we offer solutions and treatments for any illnesses through our competent doctors.”

He, however, encouraged the beneficiaries to freely discuss their medical concerns with the doctors.

“Do not hide anything from your doctors. The medications provided are free of charge, so you have nothing to worry about,” he advised.

During the event, the Elekole of Ikole, Oba Fasiku, represented by High Chief Filani Oluwafemi, warmly welcomed all participants and guests.

Filani said : “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone present for attending this occasion.

This has become an annual event, and we appreciate the management of FUOYE for their ongoing commitment to this medical outreach.

“We acknowledge that you have not forgotten Ikole, as this marks the fourth time you have come here to address our medical needs. We understand the benefits of this outreach and appreciate the care you have shown us as all prescribed medications are provided free of charge.”

The Paramount Ruler of Egbeoba Kingdom urged beneficiaries to be honest with the medical team,saying “If you have any health issues, please speak to the doctors.”

Also present at the event were the Head of Ikole Campus, Professor Olubunmi Samuel Shittu, who was represented by Professor Ayodele Ayodele Fajinmi, Dean of Environmental Studies, Professor I.A. Olatunji and Dr.Ikenna Odoh , PRO, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede among others.
