The third edition of the CSR Reporters’ Philanthropic Awards on Social Impact and Sustainability Practices in Nigeria was held on November 26, 2022, at LCCI Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos to great acclaim.

The 2022 edition followed our tradition of celebrating individuals and corporate organizations that, in the year, made impacts in Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability practices in various categories, in both private and public sectors.

The publication has instituted these social impact and sustainability awards to recognize corporate initiatives in the area of corporate social responsibility (CSR) to achieve inclusive growth and inclusive and sustainable development.

Although there is still a lot of vagueness and instability about what corporate social responsibility truly implies and additionally what drives a business to seek it;

whatever the inspirations driving corporate social responsibility endeavours, they are not far off from the desire to achieve organizational goals. Although still mostly discretionary and philanthropic and characterized by donations, charities and community developments, CSR initiatives in Nigeria are beginning to be strategic, providing a thorough engagement of businesses in society and nation-building.The CSR Reporters Philanthropic Awards on Social Impact and Sustainability Practices was instituted to celebrate those organizations and well-meaning individuals who are at the forefront of the laudable culture of helping to build a better society for all. Since 2018, CSR Reporters has been the main organizer of this annual event, receiving 200 award nominations every year.

The prestigious awards given under various categories are much sought-after by corporate entities in Nigeria, most of which are leading ethical organizations engaged in sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The award ceremony honours and celebrates the outstanding achievements of organizations that have played pivotal roles as change agents in the nation's socio-economic transformation and prosecute noble initiatives to promote sustainable economies in Nigeria and serve society.

With a deep desire to create logic and transparency in the entire process, CSR Reporters constituted the Awards Steering Committee, co-chaired by the President of the International Network for Corporate Social Responsibility and the Director of Impact Assessment at the Federal Ministry of Environment. The Steering Committee has representation from Government, NUJ, Nigerian Bar Association, NECA, and NACCIMA.

A detailed operational strategy outlining the application process and field verification of applications/ nominated entries through an independent panel is approved by the Steering Committee for due diligence and operational openness.

The judges review all nominations through the provided online system, hosted on www.csrreportersawards.com, before getting together for the final judging day.The list usually has the Person Of The Year (POTY).

This year, 2022, the renowned economist and Africapitalist proponent, Tony Elumelu is the CSR Reporters Person of the Year. He joined the CSRR POTY Alumni of Abdul Samad Rabiu (2020) and Allen Onyema (2021).

Each year, without reinventing the wheel, we easily find new entrants who are making a difference on the CSR scale and as well sustaining their efforts. Some names returned to the list every year. They remain as constant as the Northern Star.

What is so heartwarming is the realization that corporate Nigeria is taking sustainability seriously as a cornerstone of its activities and businesses.Organizations like Dangote Cement, BUA Foods, BUA Cement, IHS Nigeria, AIICO Insurance, IN-CSR, Leadway Assurance Plc, First Bank Nigeria, Fidelity Bank Plc, TGI District, FCMB, Interswitch Nigeria, Recare Cosmetics, Cybele Cosmetics, Ikeja Electric Plc among others have all won the prestigious awards in different categories.

Our focus is well-founded. Sustainability is organic―it encapsulates environmental, corporate and social dimensions.

With a plethora of natural problems triggered by climate change and exacerbating social problems, it is becoming clearer that if we want a better world, individuals, corporates and governments have to become sensitive, responsive and responsible to their natural, economic and social environment.

Indeed, the future of the world rests on how these responsibilities are fulfilled to achieve a good balance in environmental quality, economic equilibrium and social dynamics in which we exist. Only then, too, will there be reduced costs and increased profits (the holy grails that businesses pursue endlessly) as well as employee satisfaction and enhanced social responsibility, the panacea to all ills.

Steadfastness to the canon of social responsibility and sustainability will ultimately lead to the easy attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Therefore, it is a cause worthy of pursuit. Additionally, the CSR/Sustainability spectrum is vast, varied unmonitored and also evolving.

There is a need for watchers.CSR Reporters has taken up the role of a watcher in this space, serving as a compass to point out areas that need attention and recognizing entities who are trailblazers, dynamos and emergents in sustainable CSR.

We aim to spotlight trends and encourage actors to improve. In three years, we have been able to set agenda and bring the CSR and sustainability topic to the front burner. We shall continue to drive the process in the country and the continent.

Illegal Abortions: Report Vindicates Nigerian Army

Written by

A new report released yesterday by the Centre for International And Strategic Studies (CISS) has exonerated the Nigerian Army from the allegations of illicit abortion leveled against it by Reuters.

The news medium had claimed in its publication that the Nigerian Army had since 2013, “conducted a secret, systematic and illegal abortion programme in the country’s north-east, ending at least 10,000 pregnancies among women and girls who have been victims of insurgency.”

The report conducted in collaboration with the Coalition Of Civil Society Organisations On Rights And Security (CCSOHRS) described Reuters’ report as propaganda and slander against the Nigerian military.

It pointed out that the report by Reuters was a concerted effort designed to discredit the Nigerian Military.

It said it was time, therefore, for the Nigerian government and the Nigerian military, to follow up on the activities of NGOs in Nigeria, especially in the northeast zone.

The report read:  “The report “Nightmare in Nigeria: A Conflict Waged on the Lives of Women and Children” by Reuters, against the Nigerian military is false and stands dismissed.

“The Nigerian military is a professional military that stands tall among the best militaries of the world. She understands the rules of engagement and in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, the Nigerian military plays by the rules and has in no way, been found liable of any war crimes and crimes against humanity as alleged by Reuters.

“This will help checkmate and prevent their propaganda and slander campaigns against the Nigerian military. When all is said, it must be submitted that the Nigerian military has been very professional in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency and has not by any means, been found culpable.”

According to her, “the NISS AGRO Mobile App, Version 2.0, is an upgrade on the pioneer 1.0 version, with contacts of registered soil scientists, information about latest agricultural techniques, more language selection beyond the major languages.

“It also showcased improved agricultural services already verified and satisfied by NISS. All that is required is a smartphone or an android enabled phone to download the app.”

She also explained the technical issues agitating the mind of the participants taking them through how to download the App, registration, log in and other relevant information about the App.

The gathering, however, demanded that more crops and publications in form of cartoons and local dialects should be added to the App.

At the end of each year, we always look forward to what the coming year has in store for us and the tool we use in finding that is prophecy. This is why people like Primate Ayodele will always stay relevant because God uses him to let the world know what will happen in the new year.

Last year, he released some prophecies concerning 2022 and it is on record that they started coming to pass the day they were sent out for public consumption. Among the prophecies, more than 100 came to pass in the year.

1 ASUU strike: in his 2022 prophecies, Primate Ayodele revealed that there will be a serious ASUU strike in 2022 and that students will stage something serious to protest against it. As he said it, the union held a strike that lasted more than 8 months and at some point, students started blocking major highways to express their displeasure, fulfilling Primate Ayodele’s prophecy

2 Burkina Faso Coup: Earlier this year, there was a military coup in Burkina Faso that saw the end of President Kabore’s reign. Primate Ayodele warned against the coup in his 90-paged prophecies for 2022. His warning on political tension in Burkina Faso can be found on Page 21 of the prophecy book.

3 Guinea : there was political unrest in the country some months ago that led to the death of citizens. Primate Ayodele had revealed that he foresees tough times for politicians in the country. This was fulfilled.

4 Landslide In Cameroun: An unfortunate landslide that led to the death of over 21 people took place in Cameroun weeks back. Primate Ayodele said it in his new year prophecy that the country will be faced with deadly natural disasters.

5 Russia VS Ukraine War: The most talked about international event is the invasion of Ukraine by Russia some months back. Primate Ayodele had warned in his 2022 prophecies that the crisis between the countries will escalate this year. Few days before the invasion occurred, Primate Ayodele revealed in an interview session that he foresees destruction in Ukraine. About 48 hours after this prophecy, Russia invaded Ukraine and as we speak, lots of destruction have been recorded and still counting.

6 Governor Finitiri : The governor of Adamawa, Ahmadu Fintiri escaped death twice in his convoy accident that also took the lives of some of his aides. This fulfills the prophecy of Primate Ayodele that warned governors to pray against strange occurrences around them.

7 Senegal : The ruling party of Senegal lost the majority in the recently conducted parliamentary elections. Primate Ayodele had foretold in his prophecies that the president will have a crisis and will struggle to have a majority in the parliamentary elections.

8 China-Taiwan: China and Taiwan had a little face-off in the year and if not for timely intervention, could have resulted into something more serious. Before it happened, Primate Ayodele warned world leaders to watch China and Taiwan because he foresees an escalation there.

9 Assassination Of Japan Former Prime Minister: Shinzo Abe, a former prime minister of Japan was assassinated some months back during a campaign. Primate Ayodele revealed that he foresees the death of a powerful former prime minister. This was fulfilled.

10 Olubadan Of Ibadan Death:  Still in his 2022 prophecies in the section that talks about the traditional institutions, Primate Ayodele mentioned some traditional rulers that will be called to the great beyond before the end of the year. Olubadan of Ibadan was part of them and to confirm it, he died few months into the year 2022.

11 Alaafin Of Oyo’s death: this is the most recent death in the traditional institution, just like Olubadan, Primate Ayodele revealed that the Alaafin of Oyo will have health issues. He died some weeks back after his health failed.

12 Soun Of Ogbomosho’s death: Soun Of Ogbomosho died before others, he died in December, the month Primate Ayodele released his 2022 prophecies. Meanwhile, the prophet had compiled the prophecies since November. The name of Soun of Ogbomosho was also mentioned as part of traditional rulers that will die, and as he said it, the Soun of Ogbomosho met his forefathers.

13 Desmond Tutu’s Death: popular South African archbishop Desmond Tutu died on 26th of December. In Primate Ayodele’s 2022 prophecies released on 22nd Of December 2021, the man of God mentioned that he sees him in a redline which connotes death.

14 Death Of Abubakar Shekau : for many years, we have heard of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau dying and coming out again to say he is not dead.
