Former Presidential candidate and interim government campaigner,Rev Chris Okotie has warned that Nigeria's future is guaranteed only when the country is restructured.

In continuation of his interim government campaign which he began in 2019, Okotie said that for Nigeria to overcome the 2023 global economic headwinds predicted by experts, the country would need strong governance structures and a stable polity which are absent in  the present constitution .

The cleric said,in his New year message released by his media adviser,Ladi Ayodeji in Lagos during the week that unless his Aboriginal Democracy proposition is adopted, the country could flounder under a severe socio-political and economic crisis.

Okotie observed that, given the fact that 80 percent of our income is used to service our current debt of77 trillion Naira, against a backdrop of a bloated bureaucracy, the country has no choice under the current constitution than to keep borrowing to run the country.

He said,in the light of this reality,a new constitution is required to deal with all the existential problems in all spheres of our national life, which is why Aboriginal Democracy is recommended.

Okotie expressed concern that the IMF has warned that one third of the world, including Nigeria would be in recession this year.

He urged his congregation at his church, during the New year service to pray for the peace and prosperity of Nigeria.

'Every member of this church should continue to set aside a few hours to pray for Nigeria because the Household of God was set up to play a pivotal role in the destiny of this country, that's why I am involved in the political process,'he said.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, leading financial institution, Fidelity Bank Plc, recently facilitated a free medical outreach in the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) through its Fidelity Helping Hand’s Programme (FHHP).

Held on Thursday, December 22, 2022, the outreach afforded members of the community an opportunity to undertake breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, cryotherapy, malaria test, blood pressure test, eye tests and diabetes screening as well as a deworming exercise and treatment of detected ailments at no cost.

Welcoming guests to the event, Branch Leader, Kofo Abayomi-Apapa SBU, Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Augustine Moemeke said, “Fidelity Bank is a bank that has the interest of the people at heart and that is why we regularly carry out initiatives like this across the country to enable us add value in the locations where we operate in.”

Moemeke also stated that the outreach was free and urged members of the community to take advantage of the programme to check their vital signs and quickly commence treatment for any ailment that may be detected.

Thanking the bank for the kind gesture, the Executive Chairman, Lagos Island East LCDA, Hon. Dr. Alade Folawiyo, mentioned that though the Local Council Development Area authorities provided the venue, the outreach programme was solely executed by the bank. He therefore encouraged members of the community to take advantage of the programme to enhance their health and wellbeing.

Besides the medical outreach, participants also received provisions, ready-made meals as well as corporate gift items from the bank to commemorate the Yuletide celebrations.

With the FHHP, staff across Fidelity Bank’s business locations identify projects that impact their immediate community and raise funds to execute them. The bank’s management thereafter matches this contribution with an equal amount and disburses it for the selected project.

Fidelity Bank is a full-fledged commercial bank operating in Nigeria with over 7.2 million customers serviced across its 250 business offices and digital banking channels. The bank was recently recognized as the Best SME Bank Nigeria 2022 by the Global Banking & Finance Awards. A court in Kano has ordered a doctor that conducted a mental disorder test on a suspect to appear before the court for an explanation. The Judge gave the order in the case of Yusuf Buratai vs Ibrahim Danshagamu.

The presiding Judge of court number 25, Halima Wali, ordered the doctor that examined the alleged mental disorder of a man named Ibrahim Danshagamu to appear before her.

Yusuf Burutai filed a case of defamation against Ibrahim for publishing a falsified video alleging that Burutai owns several petrol stations in Kano. At first, the court remanded the charged person at a correctional centre. The accused was arraigned later in the court for bail.

Barrister Husaini Maqari, the Defense Lawyer in his interview with Freedom Radio after the court session, said; “Well, the case was filed after the video was published alleging that General Burutai has more than 60 petrol stations in Kano state. The published video also blamed (Burutai) for extorting money allocated to buy weapons to fight terrorism in Maiduguri”.

The Defense lawyer also added that; “Doctors from Malam Aminu Kano's hospital have brought a document showing that the charged person has a mental disorder. They narrated that he once divorced his five wives and since when he was a child he had signs of a mental disorder. However, the terms used in the report presented before the court are complicated that was why the Judge ordered the doctor who wrote the report to come to the court for clarification”.

In today's court session, a report of the mental disorder test of the charged person was presented before the court as ordered by the court. The court collected the report and ordered that the doctor who did the test should appear before the court on February 8, 2022.

The court also granted bail to the accused on the condition of one surety with the sum of 50 thousand nairas.

Thousands of waste managers in Lagos and southwest states on Thursday endorsed the presidential ambition of the APC’s candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for second term.

The waste managers, under the aegis of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN), popularly known as PSPs, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, formerly known as Onikan Stadium, vowed to mobilize all its members for door-to-door campaign for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu.

National President, AWAMN, David Oriyomi, said it was Tinubu who brought in the PSPs in 1999 when he was governor of Lagos State in a bid to tackle the waste problems of the state.

According to him: “He nurtured and empowered us through the small-medium business model, and successive Governments built his solid foundation. Lagos was transformed and received numerous accolades as one of the cleanest states in Nigeria and Africa.

“When our livelihood came under attack and 350 businesses were faced with the risk of bankruptcy. Asiwaju came to our rescue, by speaking out for us and hereby securing our livelihood.

“Today, the small business model established by Asiwaju has been replicated in over 9 states in Nigeria and other West African countries. It is, for this reason, we as an association are fully and wholly committed to voting and campaigning for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Next President of Nigeria,” he said.

Oriyomi also recalled that AWAMN was the first organization that endorsed the candidacy of Sanwo-Olu in 2018, saying that the association was pleased that he has “proven us right by the great work that he has done in the State and for the environment.”

“You will all recall that he inherited a heap of waste across the state, he started by declaring a state of emergency and backed it up with action leaving Lagos better than what he inherited. Now, under his leadership, waste is now seen as a resources and we are humble to be his foot soldiers to making circular economy a reality. We are committed to a Greater Lagos Rising,” he added.

Oriyomi pledged that the association would embark on a door-to-door campaign, to reach every nook and cranny of the state for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu.

“We will secure 10m votes for our Grand Patron, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Shettima. We will secure 2m votes for our Governor, Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Femi Hamzat. We will secure votes for all the Governors in all the states that we operate in,” he stated.

Earlier, Governor Sanwo-Olu, who made a brief appearance at the event, pledged to increase the salaries of waste managers in the state.

He called on them to vote massively for Tinubu, himself and other APC candidates for various positions.

Sanwo-Olu reminded them that it was Tinubu who brought in PSPs in Lagos, saying “this is where you eat, don’t listen to lies, we will increase your wages.”

Also speaking, Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr. Kadri Hamzat told the waste managers that it was Tinubu who brought about the PSPs, which many states have adopted.

He said: “Tinubu knows the way, we should get our PVCs and mobilize others to get their PVCs to vote for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu. Let them know that it is Tinubu we are voting for. When he gets to Abuja, he will perform.

“Many States in Nigeria now have KAI, LAWMA and LASTMA. Tinubu is our teacher. On March 11, we should come out and vote for Sanwo-Olu,” he said.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), LAWMA, Ibrahim Odumboni, said what has become AWAMN today had its foundation solidly laid by Tinubu many years ago.

He noted that "Since one good turn deserves another, it is only worthwhile that the association has mobilized its personnel in hundreds and thousands, for APC’s victory in next month’s elections.

"As an emerging mega city at the time, Lagos State needed to solve the challenge of solid waste management, which the administration of Asiwaju Tinubu as governor of the time, confronted frontally, leading to the emergence of the PSP operators," he said.

Odumboni stated that through successive stages, they had evolved over time, wading through challenges, but ultimately leaving the environment and the cityscape the better for it.

He commended AWAMN, its executive and the teeming PSP personnel in demonstrating a massive show of support for Tinubu's presidential ambition, and the re-election bid of Sanwo-Olu.

Odumboni noted that while this mobilizations was encouraging, the association must equally translate the massive support to electoral votes on election day, saying this was the only way to truly appreciate and help actualize the worthy ambitions of Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu.

Chairman, APC, Lagos State chapter, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi urged the waste managers to vote massively for Tinubu for laying the foundation for a solid Lagos.

"Vote for him to become president. Collect your PVCs, tell others to go and collect their PVCs so that we can vote for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu," he said.

High-profile politicians in attendance included the Lagos State APC chairman, Mr. Cornelius Ojelabi, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello, and Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the Special Adviser for Drainage and Water Resources to Lagos State Governor, the Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya.

Few are scholastic titans in Nigeria’s political galaxy, and Prince Iyiola Omisore is without tergiversation one of them though his monumental political reverence appears to have cast a long shadow on his scholastic resplendence. And it is rightly so because upon Nigeria’s political landscape, Senator Iyiola Omisore has proven himself to be a political colossus with his golden touch on lives of the people in high and low places.
But this does not obviate the fact that Iyiola Omisore (Ph.D.) is an unequalled scholastic Brobdingnagian. It is an esoteric knowledge that he is a doctor, not an honourary one but the one he read and worked laboriously for. He has a solid Ph.D. in Infrastructure Finance from International School of Management, Paris, France. This is just one out of the myriads of academic degrees he was awarded in his pursuit of knowledge that impacts the society.
After completing his primary and secondary school education at S.S Peter and Paul (Roman Catholic Primary School) and St. John Grammar School Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria (1972 – 1977), he had the first taste of tertiary education in Federal Polytechnic Owo, Ondo State Nigeria.
He seemed to love what he tasted and immediately wanted more, like a typical Oliver Twist – of knowledge – he did Technological Certificate Examinations and passed brilliantly. He specialized in in Electrical Testing methods at the Technology College, Reading UK where he bagged a diploma Certificate in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
Yet, the Scholar in Iyiola Omisore was nowhere near satisfaction. He then proceeded to Brunel University Uxbridge, United Kingdom, and clinched a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering, a postgraduate Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, and a masters degree in Building Services Engineering.
It was after this he went to France for his Ph.D.
One would think he ought to have reached marginal utility after his doctorate degree, but it was a blatant lie; he wanted more than he could imagine. The Scholar kept perusing the world for knowledge and skills in all disciplines that attracted his yearning soul.
Dr. Iyiola Omisore went ahead to add to his scholastic cap a myriad of feathers in form of professional courses that later helped his political and professional journey. Some of which include: The Innovation and Leadership Course at the West London College; Advanced Budgeting Course at the George Town University Washington DC, USA; the Aid Effectiveness and Donour Harmonization Course at the Internationale Weiterbildung und Entwicklung gGmbH, Germany; the Public Finance Course at the Harvard University; the Appropriations and Public Finance Course at the ABS Academy, Athens, Greece; Dr. Iyiola Omisore is a fellow of some of the best professional bodies in the world: Chartered Engineer; Engineering Council (United Kingdom); Institution of Electrical Engineers; Association of Cost Engineers; Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE); member of accreditation team for Engineering courses in universities across Nigeria; Registered Engineer; COREN; Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers.
The eminent scholar of inestimable repute established his professional presence by bridging the space between town and gown. He invested his long years of study in his work life.
He is a wise man who has shown a brilliant fusion of an academic and professional life. When he began his professional life in the UK, he started with Drake and Gordham. In 1985, the Nigerian division of the company (Drake and Scull (Nig) Ltd) brought the ebullient scholar back to Nigeria after he had risen to management level.
He sharpened his management skills while he was with Drake and Scull Nigeria limited. It was under this company that he undertook the supervision and construction of landmark edifices and amazing projects across the country: Ogba World Bank Assisted Health Projects for Plateau & Benue States; Guiness Harp brewery; Sokoto University Teaching Hospital among many others.
After having learnt a lot about work ethics and intricacies of taking on several projects, he ventured into establishing his own companies. He first established a multifaceted consultancy firm – Mechelec Consultancy Limited, under which he executed African Development Bank financed projects, World Bank projects; IFC/IMF/IBRD Financed project in Enugu, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kwara, and Imo States etc.
He proceeded to setting up another company, CHRISORE ENGINEERING Ltd under which he implemented incredible projects such as: Central Bank of Nigeria projects, Union Bank of Nigeria headquarters etc.
Dr. Iyiola Omisore has presented future-charting keynote addresses, lectures on world-important discourses at political, business, and academic gatherings around the world. Some of his lectures hammer on the significance of seeing in proper perspective the Freedom of Information Bill, Budgeting and Budget Implementation in Nigeria, and Constitutional policy frameworks and Solid waste Management in Nigeria.
This great Dr. of international repute has not just shown his great love for books and careful study but also the need to harness the power of information to drive the society to paradise of development. He is the complete universal scholar.
