Life Threats: Rasheed Taofeek Olarewaju Flees Lagos, Nigeria to Escape Potential Lynching by PDP Thugs
Rasheed Taofeek Olarewaju, a well-known politician in Lagos, residence of No. 25 Olorusogo Street adjacent GTCO Mushin is facing threats to his life from his former political associates after switching allegiance from the PDP to the APC
Following his defection from the PDP opposition party to the APC ruling party on Sunday, 16th March 2025, in Lagos, Rasheed Taofeek Olarewaju reportedly received life-threatening warnings from unidentified individuals purportedly connected to political thuggery
The uproar ensued soon after he officially declared his departure from the PDP to the APC and subsequently received several threatening calls over his decision to defect to another party in Lagos State, Nigeria
Rasheed Taofeek Olarewaju, a legitimate and registered member of the PDP, was initially assaulted on Saturday, March 29, 2025, while returning home, to prevent him from sharing crucial information about the party in the Mushin area of Lagos, a stronghold of political thugs
A second incident took place on Monday, April 7, 2025, when masked individuals stormed the home of Taofeek Olarewaju, father of three, at midnight. The family was subjected to severe physical abuse, resulting in the death of his daughter. Olarewaju, reportedly the main target due to his knowledge of party secrets, escaped potential lynching by exiting through a back window
Rasheed Taofeek was rushed to a nearby Private Hospital in Lagos on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, following a violent attack linked to political thuggery, where he received treatment for brutal injuries, and while in the hospital, Rasheed remained uninformed about the situation of his wife and three children
This incident led him to visit the nearest police station on Thursday, 10th April 2025, shortly after his discharge, to lodge an official complaint and request assistance in searching for his family
Following the demise of his biological parents, Rasheed Taofeek Olarewaju has chosen Shakirat Abosede, Rukayat Serifat, Rasheed Sallam Akanni, and Rasheed Fawas Akanni, along with her daughter, as his surrogate family; regrettably, Amirat Amoke was fatally shot during a politically motivated attack on his residence
Rasheed Taofeek Olarewaju noticed that the political thugs had refused to desist and continued to trail him, monitoring his every step, with threats to eliminate him in order to prevent him from revealing the political information he held, especially after he joined the new party
Rasheed Taofeek Olarewaju fled Nigeria for a secure country on Thursday, 31st July 2025, to safeguard his life. At the time of filing this report, it was still unclear where his family was.
