OGUN POLICE COMMAND INTENSIFIES ENFORCEMENT AGAINST ILLEGAL PLATE NUMBERS, MISUSE OF DEALER PLATES AND UNAUTHORISED SIRENS

The Ogun State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles operating with illegal plate numbers, the misuse of dealer (temporary) plates, and the unauthorised use of sirens and amber lights, as part of efforts to safeguard lives, prevent crime, and enhance public safety across the state.
The Command, acting on credible intelligence, has commenced intelligence-led checks on vehicles bearing fake, altered, covered, invalid, or improperly affixed number plates, as well as those unlawfully using dealer plates. Such vehicles are often exploited to facilitate criminal activities, posing serious threats to public safety. Offenders are being identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with extant laws, while the operation proactively disrupts criminal activities and promotes road safety.
To ensure professional and lawful enforcement, specialised units including the Motor Traffic Department, Monitoring Unit, and X-Squad have been deployed for operational oversight. Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers are supervising activities within their jurisdictions to guarantee fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to approved operational guidelines.
The Commissioner of Police calls on the public to cooperate with officers, comply with traffic and safety regulations, avoid patronising suspicious vehicles, and use only recognised motor parks and designated pick-up points. Residents are reassured that the enforcement is aimed at preventing crime, maintaining public order, and protecting lives, while upholding the rights and dignity of all road users.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or security concerns through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines: Gateway Shield (General Complaints Line – Toll Free): 0800 000 9111; Emergency Numbers: 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.
