THE DECEPTION CONTINUES WITH PAINTING OF ROADS!!
Otti’s government has received over N1.3 trillion in total revenue since he mounted the saddle on the 29th of May, 2023. Otti said he met a desert, yet has not done any new road of his own from start to finish but concentrated of patching of roads done by predecessors. Then painting such roads is the new fad.
*With about the N100 billion sa
id to have been sunk into rehabilitation of Abia public schools, Enugu State that invested about N50 billion has more gigantic integrated green smart schools to littered across the state to
show for it and Abia has no single smart school.
*Enugu Governor has cleared backlog of pensions and gratuities, Abia has paid nothing but tricked our aged parents into forfeiting their entitlements, while the government’s budget performance report showed a whopping N17 billion already written-off as being used to clear 9 years pension arrears.
*What Otti does in Abia is only superficial decoration and painting of outer city roads and expected dissecting voices not to ask where he has invested the over N1.3 billion already received in total revenue under 2 years and 8 months.
*So, What is the true value of superficial and aesthetic beautification of a few patch-patch outer city roads when the inner streets are choking in decay and neglect? What purpose does a fresh coat of paint, decorative lights, and landscaped roundabouts serve when entire neighborhoods are left with broken roads, overflowing gutters, and the stench of abandonment?
*Urban development has been reduced by Otti to mere cosmetics dressing. A city is not defined by how it looks from a moving vehicle and perceived by folks on social media, but by how it functions for the people who live within it.
*While Otti paints for the eyes and for social media applause, the stomach of Abians is empty. The people are actually hungry because the correct minimum wage is not paid workers and the consequential adjustment has become a nightmare for senior civil/public workers who earn a little above folks in the lowest rung of the service ladder. In Imo state, the entry salary of a civil servant is same with a level 09 worker in Abia. Pensioners in Abia are still begging to be paid, while their counterparts in other states have started receiving upward reviewed monthly pension payments. Majority of contractors, if not all, handling big projects are not locally based.
*New Abia had to rely on imported comedians to feature in an ordinary comedy show, when locally resident Abians who were ignored are even more talented. How will the local Abia economy grow on importation of basic skill and manpower? The state is painting roads and celebrating social media hype
*It is more troubling that the homogeneous resources running into hundreds of billions of naira as captured in the state’s budget performance reports, claimed to have been
used in constructing these food for the eyes are economically empty.
*With an unemployment rate of 18.7%, where the our so-called first class economist muster the luxury for aesthetic projects, while a generation of young Abians are trapped between frustration and hopelessness.
*Otti has no deliberate industrialisation policy, he has no visible foreign investment drive, and no structured plan to stimulate private sector growth. Instead, the Abia economy is reduced to a narrow pipeline of government PTA teaching jobs that cannot absorb the scale of youth unemployment nor build sustainable livelihoods. Otti preached about job creation as an opposition leader but has created zero jobs as a Governor in almost 3 years.
*Otti as a first class economist ought to have known that superficial beautification without industrial productivity to create private sector sustainable jobs is a continuation of his deceitful promises during campaigns.
*Mr. Peter Mbah of Enugu State has taken governance to another level, while Otti has equally taken propaganda to a whole new level. If you are in doubt of how Otti’s government has wasted the over N1. 3 trillion received in total revenue, watch his government’s sponsored advert on AriseTV. The advert couldn’t show any serious project that would have gulped the homogeneous resources received under 3 years.
*Those deliberately praising Otti are mischievous folks who intentionally ignore the facts that Otti should be judged with the Governors that are his contemporaries, who operate in the same economic climate but they would rather compare him with his predecessors, whose total revenue in 8 years is equal to what Otti has received in 6 months.
If they bring the issue of exchange rate, point them to Enugu, Imo, Anambra States. Otti must march performance with resources in his control.
*Otti’s priorities are sadly misplaced. Youth Unemployment is still dangerous high, as a result, superficial decoration shouldn’t be priority. Otti’s priority should be functional infrastructure, industries that create jobs, incentives that attract investors, and skills-based employment for youths.
*Until Otti addresses these fundamentals of real development, aesthetic projects will remain a complete distraction from decay. Abians who have been denied economic growth will not eat decorations. Our unemployed young people cannot build their future on superficial painting.
*If Otti cannot do both fixing Abia economy by creating real youth private sector jobs and creating superficial projects simultaneously, he should concentrate first on the Abia that works before painting roads.
