+ NUJ Ota Independent chapel pays Courtesy visit
On Wednesday, 9th July 2025, the esteemed NUJ Independent Online Chapel Ota initiated a celebratory occasion to usher in the new month by undertaking an official courtesy visit to the National President of the Motorcycle Operator Union of Nigeria (MOUN), Alh. Dr. Rasak Olusola Sotayo, at his palatable residence in Iju, Ado Odo-Ota community, Ogun State. Consistent with the corporate official member’s introduction, as anchored by Comrade Olatunji Egbewunmi.
Comrade Kayode Taiwo, Chairman of the NUJ Ota Independent Online Chapel, acknowledges and sends special greetings to Alh. Dr. Rasak Olusola Sotayo, National President of the Motorcycle Operator Union of Nigeria (MOUN)
Comrade Kayode Taiwo stated that the courtesy visit aims to enable the NUJ Independent Online Chapel Ota to formally establish its membership presence with Alh. Dr. Rasak Olusola Sotayo, thereby allowing for a comprehensive investigation to distinguish genuine journalists from those who are not. This gesture has been previously extended to notable figures such as the Olota of Otta, Naval Schools of Music, and other influential politicians and stakeholders in Sango Ota, Ogun State
Alh. Dr. Rasak Olusola Sotayo, National President of Motorcycle Operator Union of Nigeria (MOUN), warmly welcomed the NUJ members with great enthusiasm and introduced his allies and executives. He commended journalists for their invaluable contributions to society, noting that their profession is noble and deserving of respect. He pledged his continued support and appreciation for journalists, emphasizing that he will always welcome them into his home and encourage their work. As a matter of fact, journalists are contributing positively to individuals’ lives, although many people are unaware of this. The journalism profession is indispensable and will continue to play a vital role. I remain steadfast in my commitment to supporting journalists and sincerely wish for one of my children to pursue a career in journalism. Our union faced a challenging situation when a journalist’s negative report tarnished our image, but we effectively managed the crisis and learned from the experience. Today, our society comprises top-notch individuals who are publicized by journalists to gain recognition, especially for prominent political figures. The transformative power of journalism in individuals’ lives, particularly within our union, is a lasting legacy that cannot be overlooked,
When inquiring within a transportation union, to which specific aspect does his group belong and what is his level of publicity?
We are an affiliate of the transportation union, which is structured into distinct zones in each state. To gain official recognition as a union, however, any group must first register with the Ministry of Transportation and the Labour Union, a status that Amoran and Acomoran have not yet attained, remaining instead as associations under the transportation union. Since the government in Nigeria only engages with unions registered under the Labour Union, we require the assistance of journalists to inform the federal government about the various differences
We ensure our members pursue further education to garner more respect in the future, much like our distinguished member from the Kaduna State House of Representatives, who is a pride to our union he said. When it comes to discipline, he succinctly differentiates between Cain, koboko, and gun by making an illustration referencing the police who use guns to scare civilians, stating that some union officers holding Cain are only meant to scare okada riders into promptly fulfilling their obligations, and holding Cain does not necessarily mean using it to flog okada riders. We frequently attend seminars to enhance our knowledge for personal growth, and we consistently counsel our members to avoid damaging properties in the event of accidents involving members and non-members.
The government has indeed been doing a great deal to support our union, particularly the present administration, as evidenced by their importation of motorcycles for our benefit, having recognized the technical expertise within our union. As the National President of ROMA, I plan extensively wherever I go. I urge individuals to continue supporting and pray for the government.
It was a pleasure concluding our interesting conversation and interactions.
