The Ogun State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, on Monday officially launched the 2026 Police Week, marking the National Police Day celebrations. The week-long event kicked off with free medical services and a massive sanitation exercise across the state.

The Commissioner flagged off the activities on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, stressing the importance of community engagement and proactive policing in modern law enforcement.

At the NUJ Council Secretariat, Iwe Iroyin, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, members of the public accessed health screenings, including blood pressure and sugar tests, body mass index checks, and wellness counseling.

The medical outreach was coordinated by the Department of Force Medical Services, Ogun State Command, with support from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (Ogun State Council). The partnership drew praise for reinforcing community trust and collaboration.

Simultaneously, officers across all Area Commands and Divisions conducted a state-wide sanitation exercise, clearing streets, drainage channels, and public spaces to enhance environmental hygiene.

Residents lauded the dual initiatives, describing them as timely interventions that demonstrate the police’s commitment to citizen welfare beyond security duties.

DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said the programmes are designed to reflect a people-centred approach to policing and celebrate the dedication of officers across the state.

The Ogun State Command emphasized that the sanitation exercise and health outreach are part of broader efforts to integrate community partnership into policing strategies.

Commissioner Ojajuni pledged continuous collaboration with local institutions, media bodies, and the public to ensure impactful and sustained community-oriented initiatives.

Police Week activities will continue throughout the week, with planned outreach, educational programmes, and further community engagement projects across Ogun State.
