Government of the Few for Few: Apostle Suleman Knocks Political Class, Laments Failed Security on Democracy Day

The Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has issued a scathing assessment of the state of the nation, declaring that Nigeria’s democracy has been hijacked by a political elite while the masses are left entirely unprotected.

In a powerful Democracy Day address, the prominent cleric questioned the trajectory of the nation, contrasting the current realities with the vision of Nigeria’s founding fathers who secured independence in 1960.

“When the founding fathers of our nation fought for self-determination, they did so with a firm belief: that we, as a people, possessed everything required to shape our own growth, development, and progress,” Suleman stated.

He noted that following a brief post-independence parliamentary system, decades of military regimes heavily disrupted the country’s democratic journey.

According to the firebrand cleric, the prolonged military era caused the nation to “lose touch with what true governance means,” causing the core tenet of democracy, a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, to be entirely forgotten by the political class.

Apostle Suleman expressed deep worry over the country’s worsening security crisis, arguing that the true definition of democracy has been corrupted to serve only those in high office.

“Today, as we mark Democracy Day, it appears our current political leaders have redefined the term into a government of a few, by a few, and for a few,” Suleman lamented. “There is no other way to explain why safety has become an exclusive luxury reserved only for those in the corridors of power.”

Painting a grim picture of the daily terror faced by ordinary Nigerians outside the protected walls of government offices, the cleric decried the relentless targeting of vulnerable citizens.

“Outside those walls, our children are kidnapped and maimed, women are assaulted by violent actors, and the educators who provide our youth with hope are slaughtered like sacrificial animals,” he said.

Suleman further asserted that the primary purpose of any government is the preservation of human life, a metric by which he believes the current administration has failed woefully.

“A democracy and a government fail the moment they can no longer fulfill their most fundamental responsibility: protecting lives and property. This is the exact purpose for which they were elected,” the cleric declared.He noted that instead of celebrating the traditional dividends of freedom and development, millions of Nigerians are marking Democracy Day in deep mourning, anxiety, and despair.

“Today, we should be celebrating freedom and development. Instead, we are weeping, anxious, and deeply worried that the enemies of our collective destiny appear to be gaining the upper hand while the government offers nothing but excuses,” he said.

Concluding his address, Apostle Suleman turned to prayer, calling for a total overhaul of the country’s leadership structure and the removal of deceptive politicians.

“May God uproot the leadership that is pretending to serve the people and install the true leadership that will contend for the progress, advancement, and tranquility of Nigeria,”

Further, he prayed: “We look forward to the rise of authentic leaders who will restore peace, security, and advancement to Nigeria.

“The cleric’s hard-hitting message adds to a growing chorus of civil society groups, religious bodies, and citizens demanding urgent state action to tackle insecurity and economic hardship across the federation.
