ALLEGED OPEBI/ TOYIN STREET ARREST; LAGOS TASKFORCE NOT INVOLVED.

The Lagos State Taskforce has once again been drawn to a viral, misleading, and malicious “travel guide” circulating online, authored by an unidentified individual. The post falsely alleges that Taskforce operatives are stationed around Sheraton Link Bridge inward Opebi and along Toyin Street, waiting to arrest unsuspecting motorists making turns in those areas.

These claims are entirely false, unsubstantiated, and clearly intended to mislead the public while tarnishing the image of the Agency and its leadership. The Lagos State Taskforce categorically debunks these defamatory allegations and urges the public to beam their searchlight on other enforcement agencies.

Contrary to the assertions made in the said post, following a directive issued on April 1st, 2026, by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Tijani, the Lagos State Taskforce has since desisted from traffic enforcement operations across the State. This directive was aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order and ensuring sustained peace, despite traffic enforcement being part of the Agency’s statutory responsibilities.

In recent times, the Taskforce’s operations have been strictly focused on environmental enforcement, as well as the arrest of miscreants, street urchins (popularly known as “Omotaku”), and drug addicts. Any narrative suggesting involvement in traffic-related arrests in the mentioned areas is nothing more than a deliberate falsehood designed to misinform the public and discredit the Agency.

The Lagos State Taskforce remains resolute in carrying out its mandate of enforcing compliance with the law and ridding the State of criminal elements.

The Agency also warns impostors and unauthorized individuals engaging in unlawful enforcement activities to desist immediately or face arrest and prosecution.

The general public is hereby advised to disregard these false narratives in their entirety.
