In an atmosphere charged with enthusiasm, the Ogun West Independent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ota successfully conducted its long-awaited election on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, ushering in a new set of executive officers
The well-coordinated event commenced with the arrival of the NUJ Ogun State Council delegation from Abeokuta, led by State Chairman Comrade Akinwale Olarewaju
The program was deftly anchored by Comrade Omosola Olumide (popularly known as Omo Global). Following the National Anthem and introduction of guests, Comrade Olarewaju delivered his official address
In his speech, the State Chairman commended the chapel members for their unwavering commitment to the union’s growth. He expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing chairman, Comrade Kayode Taiwo, for his dedicated leadership and firm stewardship of the chapel, while also recognizing veteran member Elder Comrade Popoola for his longstanding service
Olarewaju urged journalists to maintain unity regardless of their beats or assignments. “Together we stand, and together the union will thrive beyond expectations,” he stated.
He concluded by charging the newly elected executives led by Chairman Comrade Olatunji Egbewunmi, alongside Fashina Olugbenga Secretary Elect, Sunday Adeyemi Treasurer Elect, and others to foster cooperation, show utmost respect to union elders, and prioritize the chapel’s collective interest
In his farewell remarks, outgoing chairman Kayode Taiwo praised the electoral committee for delivering a seamless exercise. He admonished members to strictly uphold journalistic ethics and professionalism to distinguish standard practice from quackery, while encouraging the incoming executive team to lead with a unified spirit
Accepting the mantle, the newly elected Chairman, Comrade Olatunji Egbewunmi, expressed profound gratitude to the State Chairman and his delegation for traveling from Abeokuta to supervise the poll. He also thanked the entire Ogun West Chapel membership for their cooperation and dedication in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
