Clarification on Edo Carnival 2026 and the Role of the Edo State Tourism Agency
It has become necessary to clarify certain misconceptions surrounding Edo Carnival 2026 and the role of government institutions connected to the initiative.
Edo Carnival 2026 is a privately driven tourism and cultural project designed to promote Edo State globally through entertainment, tourism, arts, culture, hospitality, and economic activities. While culture remains a vital part of the Carnival, the initiative itself falls within the broader tourism and destination-promotion framework being supported by the Edo State Tourism Agency.
The Carnival is not a project under the Edo State Ministry of Arts and Culture. Rather, it is an independent initiative receiving the recognition and support of the Tourism Agency, whose mandate includes promoting tourism, attracting visitors, supporting creative events, and projecting Edo State positively to the world.
The Director General of the Agency, Vivian Elabo, has publicly identified with the vision of Edo Carnival 2026 and has continued to demonstrate institutional support toward its success.
It is important for the public to understand that government ministries and agencies have different responsibilities and operational mandates. Not every cultural or entertainment-related event automatically falls under the Ministry of Arts and Culture.
