Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to Receive Honorary Doctorate for National Impact and Leadership
The Federal University of Kashere in Gombe State has approved the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science ( D.Sc Honoris Causa) on Senator (Dr.) Orji Uzor Kalu in recognition of his exceptional contributions to national development, entrepreneurial excellence, and leadership in Nigeria.
In a formal letter signed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Umaru A. Pate, and dated May 30, 2025, the University’s Senate and Governing Council endorsed the award, describing Senator Kalu as a distinguished figure whose life and service have significantly shaped both the private and public sectors.
“This honorary degree is in recognition of your outstanding contributions to national development, entrepreneurial excellence, and your exemplary leadership in both the private and public sectors of Nigeria at State and National levels,” the letter reads.
The Federal University commended Senator Kalu’s visionary leadership, his longstanding commitment to philanthropy, youth empowerment, and his unwavering dedication to national service. The University noted that the award reflects its admiration for his role as a transformational leader and statesman.
The conferment ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 5, 2025, during the University’s Convocation at its main campus in Kashere, Gombe State. A formal programme of events is expected to be released in the coming days.
Professor Pate, in his congratulatory remarks, praised the senator’s “exceptional personal and public service record,” stating that the institution is proud to associate with a figure of his calibre. “We look forward to honouring you in person at the convocation,” he wrote.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission, is a two-term senator and former governor of Abia State. Over the years, he has earned recognition for his business acumen, policy influence, and sustained efforts in community development and youth empowerment.
This latest honour further solidifies his legacy as a national leader whose influence spans politics, business, and humanitarian service.
