LAGOS TASKFORCE INTENSIFIED ENFORCEMENT ON THE ISLAND, IMPOUNDS 66 OKADA’S
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) has intensified its enforcement operations across Lagos Island, impounding 66 commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okadas for violating the State’s transport regulations.
The operation, which was carried out on Monday, 10th August 2026, forms part of the Agency’s ongoing efforts to rid the State of recalcitrant commercial motorcycle operators, street traders, illegal ticket collectors and other activities constituting a nuisance and security threat across the metropolis.
The enforcement team visited CMS Bus Stop, Obalende, Osborne Roundabout, Abraham Adesanya Road, Lekki-Ajah Expressway and the Lagos Coastal Road, where illegal Okada operators were found operating on restricted routes and constituting a nuisance to motorists and other road users.
At the end of the operation, a total of 66 commercial motorcycles were impounded, with normalcy restored in the areas visited.
Speaking at the Agency’s headquarters at Safety Arena, Bolade, Oshodi, after the enforcement exercise, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, said the Agency had intensified its intelligence gathering and tactical operations to completely eliminate illegal Okada operations from restricted highways, bridges and other prohibited routes across the State.
According to him, although some recalcitrant operators have devised different tactics to evade enforcement, the Agency’s intelligence-driven approach and tactical superiority would soon make it impossible for them to continue operating illegally.
Akerele further warned that subsequent enforcement operations would not only target illegal motorcycle operators but would also lead to the arrest and prosecution of both riders and passengers found violating the law.
He reiterated that all impounded motorcycles would be forfeited to the Lagos State Government through the courts in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining enforcement operations across the State until full compliance is achieved .
