OGUN NUJ UNVEILS 50TH ANNIVERSARY LOGO, RELEASES WEEK-LONG PROGRAMME
The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has unveiled the official logo for its 50th anniversary celebration, with a week-long programme of activities scheduled to mark five decades of journalism practice in the state.
The anniversary, tagged “Ogun NUJ @ 50: Truth, Trust and the Press – Protecting Democratic Choice and Rebuilding Public Confidence in Journalism,” will be celebrated alongside the annual press week and it will take place from Monday, October 26 to Sunday, November 1, 2026, under the theme of celebrating the history, contributions and achievements of journalism in Ogun State.
The anniversary logo was unveiled by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju, alongside media veterans and other stakeholders during the August congress of the council .
The celebration will open on Monday, October 26, with the Grand Opening and Inter-Chapel Sports and Games Competition at Iwe Irohin, with activities scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, October 27, journalists will participate in a Jubilee Walk for Press Freedom from Iwe Irohin to the MKO Sports Arena, followed by a novelty football match between NUJ FC and NBA FC. The activities are designed to promote press freedom, health, sports and wellness.
Wednesday, October 28, will feature the Jubilee Music Concert and Chapel Variety Day at Iwe Irohin, beginning at 11:00 a.m., while Thursday, October 29, will feature the Anniversary Lecture, commissioning of Golden Jubilee Legacy Projects and Veterans’ Night at noon.
The programme will continue on Friday, October 30, with a Village Outreach and Thanksgiving Juma’at Service at Opeji, while Saturday, October 31, will feature the Grand Finale and Awards Ceremony at noon.
The week-long celebration will come to an end on Sunday, November 1, with a Church Thanksgiving Service at V.L.B.C. by 8:00 a.m.
The Ogun NUJ Golden Jubilee is expected to bring together past and present journalists, media veterans, stakeholders and members of the public to celebrate five decades of journalism while reflecting on the role of the press in strengthening democracy and rebuilding public confidence in journalism.
